Mountain Bike Route Marshals
We generally pay an outside organisation to assist us with this section. Need to have numbers confirmed 3 weeks before race date. Watch out for school holidays making communication difficult
Requires ten people to be "Competitor Marshals" at road intersections over the Mountain Bike section. This simply means you stop the bike riders from going the wrong way. We are not "Traffic Marshals" as the road is open to the public at all times during the race and cars may go where they wish. Could have more folk as it is a little boring waiting for the competitors. As with all transitions these marshals need to attend the Health & Safety briefing and will receive a copy of the Health & Safety Plan with the standard forms
Time required: 9:45 AM until approx 12:15 AM when the tail car comes past after the last competitor
Equipment required: bring your own, camp chair, sun bloc and hat, good book
Support Vehicles are banned on mountain bike course. This is a rough gravel road. We ask support folk to avoid the route where possible. The best alternative route is: Exit car park, return down Makarau Road to SH16 travel via Kaukapakapa, Kahikatea Flat Road, and Pine Valley Road to the motorway. Take the motorway extension north to avoid Silverdale and Orewa.Travel Past Wenderholm to the Puhoi turnoff. This takes approx 45 mins.
